Austria Finances Breakdown

If anyone is curious what living abroad might cost, I have been keeping track of my expenses closely. Housing is covered by the school during the school term.

Here is how Austria turned out for me:

Discretionary Spending is defined as food, gifts, as well as any tours/weekend excursions I do

Austria
  • Flight to Austria from Orientation: 158.51
  • Local Transportation in Austria: 161.40 (this includes airport transportation upon leaving)
  •  Discretionary Spending in Austria: 2412.42
  • Trip to Italy Transportation: 350.80
  • Trip to Italy Hostel: 50
  •  Trip to Italy Discretionary Spending: 383.00
  •  Medical Bills: 539.11 (reimbursed in full)
  • Purchased new-used camera: $600.00
  • Flight Vienna to Bangkok: 577.69

Total cost of Vienna (flight in to flight out): 4612.93 (-539.11 medical reimbursement = 4073.82)

 Austria Discretionary Breakdown

Cost of Excursions (these were included in the Vienna discretionary spending budget) in Vienna:
  • Prague (2 nights) $266.36 (includes a group tour and river boat dinner cruise)
  • Salzburg (day trip): 283.14 (day trip purchased on Viator was 124 – included train tickets, city and sound of music tour – an extra 50.00 was spent because I missed the train home and had to purchase new tickets)
  • Italy had its own budget (see above) – 2 nights.

Had I not gone to Italy or had to purchase the new camera it would have saved me $1383.
